If you believe that “timing is everything,” there is new research that may further solidify your ideas on the matter. According to a new study, patients may be most receptive to treatment that helps them overcome their fears and anxiety if they schedule their psychotherapy appointments for the morning. This is due, in part, to the fact that levels of a naturally occurring hormone (called “cortisol”) are at their highest in the morning. Often referred to as the “stress hormone,” due to its connection to the stress response, cortisol is thought to suppress the fear memory created by earlier distressing encounters. At the same time, it may help a patient better absorb and remember the new corrective information.

Of course, while morning appointments may be optimal, if you are dealing with anxiety, any appointment is better than no help at all. Our compassionate counselors can help you deal with your fears and anxieties, as well as your grief, stress, or depression. We can provide a safe space and proven techniques for improving your life. You deserve help. If you have any questions or would like to make an appointment, please
