Plains Area Mental Health Center is seeking a full-time Peer Support Specialist for the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team. Primarily responsible for supporting and advocating for persons with severe and persistent mental health concerns by providing support of locating housing options, maintaining current housing arrangements, teaching and or supporting members in using skills to maintain a cleanly home environment, and advocating for member support with landlords/other tenants/etc. Engages member and/or caretaker on alternatives to emergency or hospital care. Participates weekly in collaboration of care with a multidisciplinary team. Delivers crisis response as needed under the supervision of the ACT Team Lead. Currently meets and or is able to meet all requirements of a nationally standardized peer support training program, including at least 30 hours of training and satisfactory completion of an examination.
