On July 1, 2014, Plains Area Mental Health Center was selected by Magellan Behavioral Health of Iowa to begin Integrated Health Services (IHS) for both adults and children in Buena Vista, Carroll, Cherokee, Crawford, Greene, Ida, Monona, Plymouth, Sac and Sioux Counties. Established by the Affordable Care Act, it is an additional benefit for Medicaid eligible participants and is completely free of charge. IHS is a holistic approach that ensures participants receive comprehensive and integrated care including the mind-body connection, while addressing their support needs.

Each participant is assigned a team of professionals including a Registered Nurse, Care Coordinator, and Peer Support (adult) and Family Peer Support Specialists (children) who actively review the member’s mental and medical condition and create an individualized care plan to provide:

  • Assistance in navigating the healthcare system and accessing resources
  • Personalized supports
  • Major focuses on wellness, prevention activities, education, and healthy lifestyle choices

Qualifying adults include individuals with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, and other serious mental health conditions that cause significant impairment in daily functioning. Qualifying children are those with a serious emotional disturbance (SED), including a diagnosable mental, behavioral or emotional disorder that results in impairment of daily functioning.

While enrollment in the Integrated Health Services Program is easy and free, the added benefits to your or a loved one’s overall health may be priceless. Individuals interested in learning more about the Integrated Health Services Program should call (712) 225-1490.
