Treating our Children

Depending on your outlook, the news regarding the treatment of children with mental issues in this country is either good news or not good enough. According to a study conducted by the U.S. National Institute of Mental Health, a little more than half of the U.S. children suffering from mental disorders (including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder) are receiving help. However, this means that nearly half of youngsters with psychological issues are not getting the treatment they need. Researchers point out that depression and anxiety often go undiagnosed and untreated. For many of these undiagnosed and untreated children, the problem often rests with the fact that anxious and depressed children often do not make trouble. As a result their conditions are overlooked.
