Thank you for trusting us with your mental health and/or substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services. Here at Plains Area we take pride in treating the whole person by assessing both mental health conditions as well as substance use disorder conditions. This is done using screening tools and a Comprehensive Intake process.

During the treatment planning phase each individual client has an opportunity to individual his/her own treatment plan through the use of the Daily Living Activities Scale or the DLA-20. This scale assists each therapist in exploring medical necessity for treatment services which place emphasis on treatment planning.

Individuals who meet medical necessity for co-occurring services will be able to address these goals and objectives by working with the same therapist using the same treatment plan as they would when addressing mental health needs.

Those in need of substance abuse services will be assessed using the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) scale to determine level of care. These Levels of Care are outlined below.

SUD Levels of Care:

Level I. Extended Outpatient and Continuing Care Services

This level of care consists of less than 9 hours of service each week for adult patients and 6 hours or less a week for adolescents. While participating in Level I services, patients will explore the importance of recovery and any potential co-occurring conditions, enhance personal motivation to change, as well as develop a successful self-directed recovery program.

Evidence Based treatment (EBT) modalities will be provided by Independently Licensed co-occurring therapists in both group and individual settings. EBTs utilized include, but are not limited to, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (SUD protocol and other protocols), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing.

Emphasis and encouragement to participate in family therapy, 12 Step Self-Help groups and Body Movement groups such as Yoga are strongly encouraged and promoted.

Level II. Intensive Outpatient Service

This level of care consists of 9 or more hours of service each week for adult patients and 6 hours or more each week for adolescents. Level II services are utilized to treat a more complex patient regarding substance use disorders as well as mental health concerns and have an adequate support system to remain at the outpatient level of care.

While participating in Level II services, patients will increase personal stabilization, recognize the severity of the illnesses in their lives, and search for motivation to change as they begin to develop a purpose and desire for a self-directed recovery program.
