Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)

September 5 to September 6, 2024
8:30am to 4:30pm
Registration has ended for this event.

ASIST is a two-day, interactive workshop that teaches caregivers to provide life-assisting, first-aid intervention to those at risk for suicide. The PAL model (Pathways for Assisting Life) is the focal point of the intervention, teaching participants how to use a safe, yet practical way to intervene with a person at risk. Everyone is welcome to attend!

Participants will be better able to:

  1. Identify people who have suicidal thoughts.
  2. Understand how beliefs and attitudes can affect suicide.
  3. Conduct a safety assessment and develop a plan that will keep the person at risk safe-for-now.
  4. Confirm the person at risk's faith in the safe plan and their intent to follow it through.

Training is free!! Funding for this training is provided by a Federal SAMHSA CCBHC grant. CEU’s: Nursing; Social Work; Psychology; Counseling; (including substance abuse): fee associated.

The two-day Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) is designed for members of all caregiving groups. It is used to improve caregivers’ abilities to intervene until either the immediate danger of suicide is reduced or additional assistance or resources can be accessed. A direct comparison to the CPR program of the American Heart Association is appropriate. Like the “Heart saver” program, the workshop is designed to provide caregivers with emergency “first aid” skills for helping persons at risk of suicidal behaviors.

Spaces are limited, so be sure to secure your spot ahead of time!
