Keep On Learning

Posted February 28, 2022

We often associate learning with our youth; however, it doesn’t have to end there. Learning new skills as we age is always worthwhile, and the best part is that learning has been shown to help improve and maintain our mental well-being. It can boost self-confidence and self-esteem, which can be a game-changer in building a sense of purpose. Classes and formal courses are great ways to learn new things, but keep in mind that they aren’t for everyone, and there are many ways to keep learning. Learning to cook a favorite dish, visiting galleries and museums, completing a DIY project at home, and rediscovering an old hobby are just a few of the ways we can improve our mental health.

Learning a new skill changes the physical structures of the brain. By stimulating neurons in the brain, more neural pathways are formed; the more pathways that are formed, the faster impulses can travel. The satisfaction in learning something new and exciting, whether as a hobby or for your job, will definitely bring you joy and satisfaction. We offer caring, experienced counseling services, medication management and support to help our clients live full, productive lives.

P.S. Setting targets and hitting them can create positive feelings of accomplishment.
